Several firings at a temperature of 2260°F.
First, I create the sculpture from clay. It has to be hollow inside,
which makes the process very complicated. The work dries very slowly,
and this takes about a month. It cannot be dried quickly, or it will
crack. Then the sculpture is fired in a kiln at 2260°F (1240°C).
After
that, I cover it with colorful glazes and fire it again. At every
stage, there is a risk that the sculpture will crack, and you will have
to start over.
During drying, shrinkage and deformation of the parts occur, while the glazes mix to create a new, unique color.
Each stage contributes to how the sculpture will look in the end. This is what makes it unique and one of a kind.
Each sculpture is unique
Each sculpture is entirely handcrafted by me, and this is a fundamental
principle of my work. No molds or casting are used for any of my pieces.
If I want my works to be filled with warmth and emotion, I must pass
these qualities onto them through my hands. Unique items must be created
in this way. Every line is redrawn, and every form is shaped by hand.
