Birth of Art: The Bull in the Context of the First Creative Acts
Calf is an interpretation of the bull image emerging from the depths of prehistoric art. The sculpture is inspired by the cave paintings of Altamira, where depictions of bison and hunting scenes were the first expressions of human artistic impulse. These paintings symbolize not merely a representation of reality, but the emergence of symbolism, marking the birth of art as we know it. Embedded in them are the fundamental features of artistic expression: the desire to depict and comprehend the world around us, as well as an attempt to convey the essential elements of life through symbols.
In this series, the calves are of identical shape but differ in color, serving as a metaphor for how cultural and traditional differences over time shape perception, while the fundamental form remains unchanged. This reflects the continuity of creative principles, echoing the timeless nature of artistic language. Much like the cave paintings, these sculptures preserve the simplicity and strength of expression, which serve not only aesthetic purposes but also deliver a philosophical commentary on the evolution of art.
The symbolism of these works addresses not only anthropological perceptions of art but also philosophical questions about how art, beginning with humanity's earliest steps, continues to evolve while maintaining its connection to nature and history. Thus, the work becomes not only an object of visual perception but also an invitation for deep reflection on the role and significance of art in human culture.
The shape of the bull, resembling a heart, enhances the symbolism of love as a powerful and inspiring force. The heart, being a universal symbol of love, conveys depth and emotional intensity, connecting the physical strength of the bull with its inner, sentimental meaning. This image reflects how love, as the source of life, nourishes and inspires not only humanity but also nature and art itself.
Manufacturing
First, I create the piece from raw clay. The sculpture must be hollow inside, which complicates the process. Then, it undergoes a drying phase, which takes about three weeks. It can't dry too quickly, otherwise, the work will crack. After that, I place the sculptures in a special kiln and set the temperature to 2282°F (1250°C). The sculpture stays in the kiln for about three days. Next, I paint it with colored glazes and fire it again. If I want to add gold or special paints, I repeat the firing process once more.
Every piece I create is made entirely by hand, with no molds, no shortcuts—just clay, care, and a deep love for what I do. It’s my way of pouring warmth into each line, each curve. I believe that to give something a soul, you have to connect with it, and that’s what I do: shaping and refining every detail, so each Taurus is filled with the spirit, uniqueness, and life I hope you’ll feel too.
